Fourth Wing
I am screaming and crying over finishing this book. I already want to go back and read it again, savoring each page for the gold it is. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros has been flying off the shelf for ages now, and I can’t believe how long it took me to actually read it. This book is not only filled with thrilling fantasy but also forbidden romance, great friendships, and shocking plot twists. It was everything I needed and more in a fantasy, romance book.
Fourth Wing is centered around Violet Sorrengail who has trained her whole life to become a scribe, writing about the dragon riders fighting in war. But when Violet’s mother, who is the commanding general, forces her to become a dragon rider, Violet is faced with war college where death is not only possible but likely. Violet had less time to train than the other riders, and on top of that, she is smaller and weaker than everyone else. Oh, did I mention that half of her classmates hate her for who her mom is? And, the one that hates her the most is also the love interest. What more could you ask for? There are so many other amazing plot points in this book, but I don’t want to even slightly spoil it for y’all.
I absolutely ate this book up. The plot was really enjoyable and had some great action scenes but also some slower more romantic ones. I really liked Violet, which is good because a lot of the time when I don’t like the main character, it makes the book hard to get through. I loved Xaden, the love interest. Who can resist the brooding bad boy who is supposed to hate her but instead finds he has a soft spot for her? Not me, I’ll tell you that much! The ending was so good and really made me excited for the second book. I would die to have it in my hands and be reading it right now.
Yarros’ writing style is very easy to understand, making it perfect for people who want to start getting into fantasy. In addition, this book is pretty romance heavy, so if you’re a big romance reader this is a good option to bridge the gap between the two genres. It is also pretty fast paced making it perfect for anyone trying to get out of a reading slump.
Fourth Wing is getting a prime spot facing out on my bookshelf because of how good it was. That and it doesn’t hurt that the cover is gorgeous. My only regret is not buying it when it first came out with the beautiful sprayed edges. Anyway, that’s all for now.
